Safety First

Interlink is committed to providing our customers with safe road infrastructure.

While a recent report conducted by infrastructure consultants KBR found the M5 was a safe road, we are constantly striving to improve the safety and quality of the motorway.

We are currently implementing a number of changes on the motorway, designed to improve motorist and staff safety and traffic flow through the M5 toll plaza at Hammondville.

We are:

  • Reducing the number of complex post-plaza merges, through a combination of the closure of one cash lane in each direction and extending lane delineation barriers a further 225 metres after the toll plaza; and
  • Constructing crash barriers around toll booths and installing approach awareness strips on the approach to the cash lanes to improve motorist and toll booth staff safety.

In a recent audit of safety around the toll plaza, KBR found that reducing the number of merges should result in increased traffic flow and a reduction in the possibility of accidents.

Interlink will continue to closely monitor the changes to ensure the best outcome for motorists.
