When driving through the main toll plaza always remember to:
- Get in the correct lane before you enter the plaza.
- Stay in your lane. Do not cross the unbroken white line separating lanes at the main toll plaza.
As people often get caught out by unfamiliar signs and lane markings, we've prepared a quick guide to getting through the M5 toll plaza in no time flat.
| Step 1 |
When you're 800m out from the plaza
you'll see a sign showing which lanes accept which payment
methods.
If you've got an electronic tag such as E-way, Beep Tags,
Roam Tolling E Tags, E Toll, E Tag, Express Tag and Melbourne/Brisbane
tags, you should start moving into the right lanes.
Cash payments and electronic card readers for motorcyclists
with a Motorcycle Card are all in the left lanes. |
|

| Step 2 |
| As you get closer the road will widen
to accommodate more lanes and roadway signs will let you
know if you're in the correct one. If you're not, change
lanes! |
|
| Step 3 |
200m in front of the plaza another
set of signs marks the payment method for each lane.
The right hand side electronic
tolling lanes are marked with E-way signs.
The cash lanes
are marked as either 'Change Given' (toll collector in
attendance), or 'Exact' (coin basket only. No change available).
Motorcycle Card
users should use the 'Exact' lanes.
E-way users:
You should be in the correct lane doing no more than
70km/h.
Cash payments
and Motorcycle Cards:
You should be in the correct lane preparing to stop.

Refer to individual motorway websites for
specific plaza layouts
| Step 4 |
E-way drivers can cruise through at
70km/h, but should look out for warnings on LED displays.
Note the 70km/h speed limit is a maximum speed and is
enforced.
Motorcycle Card users and people making cash payments
will need to stop. |
|
E-way users should hear a single 'beep' confirming the transaction.
If you hear nothing, or anything other than a single beep, please
contact our Customer Service Centre within 24 hours on 1300
555 833.
