The M5 by numbers

At the M5 we closely monitor trends in motorway use and toll payment methods in order to constantly improve the service we provide to our customers.

We conduct regular customer service surveys and traffic usage analysis.  Interesting facts and figures from the most recent M5 studies include:

118,000 = Average number of vehicles using the M5 each day
93 per cent = Cars as a proportion of total vehicles
88 per cent = Proportion of customers surveyed in 2006 that said the M5 saves them time. 80% of those surveyed said the M5 saves them petrol and 76% said the M5 is safer than alternate routes and a valuable asset for business*
80 per cent = Proportion of customers that use E-way or other electronic payment method on M5
79 per cent = Proportion of customers that would recommend the M5 to others
50 per cent = Proportion of customers travel on the M5 for leisure reasons & to visit family & friends, 26% use the M5 as part of the commute to & from work, 16% travel on the M5 for business or work & 17% of customers use the M5 when doing domestic errands.
