Overheight vehicles and the M5 South West Motorway |
Heavy vehicle drivers travelling through the Sydney Harbour Tunnel, Eastern Distributor, M5 East, Lane Cove and Cross City tunnels are reminded that height restrictions are in place.
Vehicles travelling into Sydney motorways over the height restrictions can cause significant damage to tunnel structure and assets such as lighting and fire systems within the tunnel.
The M5 East tunnel connects the M5 South West Motorway with the City both east and westbound, and incidents involving overheight vehicles in the M5 East tunnel can have a significant impact on the motorway. When vehicles get stuck in a tunnel it causes delays for other motorists and can significantly affect traffic flow.
Watch out for warning signs placed on the approach to the tunnels and, if unsure, follow them to find alternate routes. And remember, if caught, penalties can apply to you and your employer.
For more information on tips when driving heavy vehicles, Sydney’s tunnel height restrictions, and your responsibilities as a driver, please contact the RTA on 13 22 13.
