INTERLINK WELCOMES M5 WEST WIDENING INITIAL AGREEMENT |
Interlink Roads, manager of the M5 South West Motorway, welcomes the initial agreement reached with the RTA for the proposed M5 West Widening project.
The M5 West Widening project involves widening of the M5 by generally one lane in each direction, to improve traffic flow and travel time reliability for motorists and freight users of the road. The project is intended to address congestion on the motorway and also plan for future commercial and residential growth in the South West Sydney corridor.
Under this initial agreement Interlink will develop the concept design, project cost estimate and funding plan for the project.
The RTA has commenced the Environmental Assessment and Planning Approval process for the M5 West Widening project, including community consultation. Further details are available on the RTA’s website www.m5corridorexpansion.com.au.
The M5 is a 21 kilometre motorway, from King Georges Road in Bexley to Camden Valley Way in Casula. It is the connection between the M5 East and Westlink M7 on the Sydney Orbital Network.
With its proximity to Sydney Airport and Port Botany, the M5 is a vital link in Sydney’s freight network.
Since the M5 opened, Interlink has implemented a number of projects demonstrating both the commitment and capability to deliver a better service to motorists. These projects include:
• Five kilometre M5 Western Link • Four kilometre M5 duplication between Fairford Road and King Georges Road • Moorebank Avenue interchange, and • Duplication of the Henry Lawson Drive east-facing ramps and toll plazas.
Interlink General Manager, Rex Wright said the M5 West Widening project would benefit motorists and the broader community as well as Interlink’s shareholders and investors including several major superannuation funds. This means that a lot Australians will share in the success of this project.
