M5 South West Motorway supports National Tree Day

The M5 South West Motorway has planted 270 native trees and shrubs in support of National Tree Day in August 2010.

The new vegetation is native to the local area, with special effort taken to create and maintain the type of Cumberland Plain Woodland that is the area’s original native vegetation.

The new plantings are near the Beech Road exit on the M5 South West Motorway, and include:

* Spotted Gum Eucalyptus
* Grey Box Eucalyptus
* Narrow Leafed Iron Bark
* Australian Black Thorn
* Tall Baeckea
* Lomandra

These new plants will add to the 150 hectares of existing bushland along the M5 corridor which is home to a variety of native birds, insects and reptiles.

The M5 South West Motorway takes its responsibilities to sustainability and improving the environment seriously, and in addition to continuous tree planting, the M5 continues to be a proud sponsor of the Mount Annan Botanic Garden - Australia’s largest botanic garden.
